The Trust was established in 2002, and represents a consortium of 11 Parish Councils in Tynedale, to the north of Hexham in rural Northumberland. The Parish Councils involved are:
Newbrough,
Warden,
Wall,
Humshaugh,
Simonburn,
Wark,
Birtley,
Kirkwhelpington,
Bavington,
Chollerton
Whittington.
Together the Parishes cover an area of 450 square miles, represent a population of 4,500 and form the Humshaugh County Council Division.
The Trust was established in order to respond to the needs of the rural community, and assist in the sustainable economic regeneration of the area. The Parish Councils recognised that by working together the communities would have a greater voice with which to influence decision makers and fund holders, and to affect real change of benefit to their communities. A comprehensive study was produced involving all the Parishes, and the community and the findings published in June 2000. The Mid Tyne Community Trust finally achieved charitable staus in December 2002
